It is never too early to schedule your initial consultation with an estate planning attorney. First, you must ensure that you prepare the right documents so that we can best serve you. Continue reading to learn what you should bring to your initial consultation with Linda Sommers.
You may feel uneasy before meeting with Linda for your initial consultation. This is because you may be anticipating conversations surrounding your death, which may be difficult to discuss or even comprehend. However, preparing the right documents may bring you more peace of mind.
First, it is helpful to make a list of beneficiaries you wish to designate in your estate plan. Our intake also requests that you provide us with a broad snapshot of what assets you have. You may feel better knowing that you are making an effort in ensuring that your loved ones are taken care of when you are no longer around.
Second, it is most efficient if you start thinking about whom you wish to designate as a financial fiduciary (person) to take over in the event of your incapacity or upon your passing on. You may feel comforted knowing that you have loved ones whom you trust to support you in your time of need. If you don’t have family or friends that you want to name to be in charge of your financial affairs, Linda will help you to decipher who is best for your particular needs.
No single estate plan looks like another. Your plan will be based on your individual life, family, and needs. It helps if you bring to your initial consultation the following:
- Our electronic (or if you don’t have computer access paper) intake.
- A snapshot of all of your assets (our online intake will walk you through that process).
- Your existing wills, trusts, and any other estate planning documents.
- Any business agreement that has clauses surrounding the distribution of your stake upon death.
- Any prenuptial agreement, divorce agreement, or other important contract that has clauses your estate plan must adhere to.
- A list of questions you want to ask Linda.
You must remember that there is a process when you establish your estate plan. The process generally takes two to three months depending on everyone’s scheduling needs, so do not wait too long before contacting Sommers Law Group!
