30th Anniversary of Practicing Law

Saturday, October 21, 2023, I will celebrate 30 years of practicing law!!! Thank you to everyone who has allowed my law firm to assist you in crafting your personalized estate plan!! My relationship with my clients is unique and ongoing, and without you, I would not have been able to continue doing what I love for so many years!

In May of 1993, my grandma hugged me at my law school graduation and said, “Great, now you can do my probate when the time comes.”  At the time, I was working at a criminal defense and litigation firm. Then and there, I decided that it would be an honor to fulfill my grandma’s wishes, and I began expanding my knowledge and practice to estate planning and estate administration.

My grandma passed away in December 2003. While in hospice, she called me to her bedside, seeking reassurance that I would make sure her estate would be taken care of and reiterating that she wanted me to be the attorney to handle it. What an honor that was. Since then, I have practiced exclusively in estate planning, estate administration, and asset protection. Helping people ensure that their estate planning wishes and goals are legally prepared is my calling and the most fulfilling job I could ever have.

I get to help people pass on their legacy for generations to come, I get to be there for their loved ones to help them through some of the most challenging times in their lives, I get to know some of the most amazing people and their families, and soon I will get to share this legacy and business with my daughters who are both in law school and following in my footsteps.

Law is a lot like modern-day medicine. When addressing a medical issue, we are referred to someone specializing in that area of medicine. When you are ready to prepare your estate plan, I encourage you to seek the assistance of an attorney whose practice is exclusively doing just that – estate planning. Although many people believe they have a “simple estate,” there are things that they haven’t considered that can complicate matters. The attorney’s job is to walk them through those issues and landmines that they haven’t considered.

The difference between a general attorney (one who does a little bit of everything) and an estate planning attorney lies in the education and experience that an estate planning attorney acquires through years of experience working on estate planning issues and taking continuing legal education courses specifically for estate planning. A good estate planning attorney can serve as a legal guide through all the aspects of preparing for the end of your life.
